Your data, explained plainly: what we collect, why we collect it and the control you have.
Who we are
ChowBuy Technologies Ltd. ("ChowBuy", "we", "us") operates the ChowBuy website and apps that connect customers with restaurants, shops, pharmacies, riders and package delivery in Nigeria. We are the data controller for personal data processed through our services.
This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with and your rights under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and related regulations.
What we collect
We collect only what we need to run the service:
- Account data: name, phone number, email address and password or PIN (stored securely).
- Order data: items ordered, delivery addresses, delivery notes, order history and ratings.
- Payment data: payment status and tokens from our payment processors. We do not store full card numbers.
- Location data: your delivery location and, for riders, live location while online.
- Device and usage data: device type, app version, IP address, crash logs and how you use the service.
- Communications: messages with support and feedback you send us.
- Rider and partner data: ID documents, vehicle papers, guarantor details, business details and bank details for payouts.
How we use your data
- To create your account, process orders, take payment and deliver your food and packages.
- To show live tracking, estimate delivery times and match orders with riders.
- To provide support, resolve disputes and issue refunds.
- To keep the platform safe, prevent fraud and verify riders and partners.
- To improve our products and personalise recommendations such as Smart Cart suggestions.
- To send service messages and, where permitted, offers and promotions. You can opt out at any time.
- To meet legal and regulatory obligations.
Legal bases
We process personal data on these bases: performance of our contract with you, your consent (for example marketing and precise location), our legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention and service improvement) and compliance with the law.
Who we share data with
We share data only as needed:
- Restaurants and partners: your name, order and delivery details so they can prepare the order.
- Riders: your name, delivery address, phone number and order details for the delivery.
- Service providers: payment processors, cloud hosting, communications, analytics and identity verification providers acting on our instructions.
- Authorities: where required by law or to protect rights and safety.
- Business transfers: in a merger or sale, subject to this policy.
We do not sell your personal data.
International transfers
Some providers may process data outside Nigeria. Where that happens we use safeguards required by the NDPA, such as contractual protections and adequacy or equivalent measures.
Retention
We keep data only as long as needed for the purposes above. Order and financial records are kept for the period required by Nigerian law. When data is no longer needed we delete or anonymise it.
Your rights
Under the NDPA you may:
- Ask for access to the personal data we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Ask us to delete data, subject to legal retention duties.
- Object to or restrict certain processing, including direct marketing.
- Withdraw consent at any time.
- Ask for your data in a portable format.
- Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls, monitoring and staff confidentiality obligations. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your password and wallet PIN private and tell us right away if you suspect misuse.
Children
ChowBuy is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.

We use cookies and similar tools described in our Cookie Policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If changes are significant we will notify you in the app or by email. The date at the top shows the latest version.
